Good Food Award recipient Ulli Sitter sources seeds from local NY farmers to press the very freshest oil of sunflower, camelina, pumpkin, hempseed, and rapeseed in small batches on demand in Long Island City, Queens. The gentle and gradual extraction of a stamp press is the only true method for a cold-pressed oil because it generates no frictional heat.
Ulli’s oils are made in the tradition of her native Austria and are unfiltered, unrefined, and never bleached or deodorized. Her mission to create a sustainable oilseed culture by partnering with farmers growing non-GMO seeds for cover crop rotation inspired us to offer her Sunflower Chili oil as part of our Larder.
Sunflower Chili oil is made from organic sunflower seeds pressed with thai-style chilies from Hepworth Farm of Milton, NY. Though not suited for cooking, this oil is the perfect way to add zippy heat to your roasted or grilled meats. We absolutely love it drizzled over a main course or mixed into a dressing or dip! Stir in fresh herbs and lemon zest for a quick and easy condiment to spoon over a pork chop or sliced steak.
