Our turkeys are raised by none other than Frank Reese — one of America’s most important farmers. His flock of turkeys is the country’s oldest, dating back over 180 years. His farm, the Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch, is the only remaining commercial USDA certified Standardbred heritage poultry farm in the United States.
Frank is doing incredible work, and its impact extends far beyond a delicious bird on your Thanksgiving table. A thin thread connects us to our agricultural past, and now more than ever, that thread is at great risk of being cut. That’s why Frank Reese along with Heritage Foods founder Patrick Martins and aspiring Standardbred poultry farmer, educator, and a notable humane butchery expert Jay Greenberg started the Good Shepherd Conservancy.
The Good Shepherd Conservancy is the natural evolution of Frank Reese and his farm. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding and promoting biodiversity through the use of Standardbred poultry and historical purebred lines of livestock for agricultural use. Their goal is to re-shape the poultry industry, pushing it away from the sad, industrial nature of it as it stands today.
